Flexplate would have no effect on the tranny and it's performance.
The flexplate replaces the fly wheel on an engine with an automatic tranny, has all the gears that the starter engages with. They are know to crack and cause a weird rattle.
Just put you ear to a screw driver touching the bell housing and see if you hear anything.
