Funrover - yah, I don't get what the problem is with LR sunroofs but there must be some 'design flaws'. I've had over a dozen cars (1st was a 1950 Austin) & trucks with sunroofs and none of them ever caused any serious problems, so why all the trouble with these? Our Disco has no sunroof because the MCL salesman back in '96 wouldn't let me buy one with a sunroof!
One option the factory should have offered was the old extra layer of (aluminum) roof as was found on the series trucks - it helped keep the interior cooler, but of course, never leaked. I suspect you are smart to seal those big holes up for good.
