That "K" stands for Kelvin temp and p76 is right, at 8000K the light is very blue almost purple. Daylight (high noon) is 5500K and your average light bulb 3200k.
The other "K" in lighting is when you start talking about big movie where the "K" stands for thousands watts.... 10K = 10,000 watts! Biggest I've ever worked with was one 18K and a couple 12Ks to light an elephant in a studio!
