Question Dead Distributor!?????

hello all, was wondering how to check my distributor to make sure each, umm not sure of technical terms here, contact is working. i took it out since i took the whole engine apart from the top down and i noticed three of the contacts were black and the walls for those contacts looked eated away on the inside. please forgive me because im sure there are words for this that would explain it much better but i hope someone will understand me. all three of these contacts were for spark plugs on the same side of my engine (passenger). read the thread HELP PLEASE!!! to find out the first part of my story. basically two mechanics told me my engine was shot and the block was cracked so i decided to see how good they were at judging things from the outside and i took it all apart. im no mechanic but i dont see any thing broken except for maybe this distributor so far. i cleaned it up and all the contacts look nice now but i want to check it to see if it still works. ok go! give me what ya got!
