Along those same lines though is how limited the distance is on my remote ... I have to be within ten feet, sometimes closer before the doors unlock. But like previous posters noted, I have learned to live with it.

Try turning the key around.
The metal piece that goes into the ignition switch does not act like an antenna.
I have also heard that putting it to you chin helps extend the range too.
