Ok, well first of all, I think what happened was you blew a head gasket! The top of the pistons, as mentioned before, are remarkably clean! That is extremely abnormal, especialy in a rover!!!!

It appears as though they have been steam cleaned. We need more pictures, especially of the other side of the engine, and of the underside of the heads! I would check everything. Bring the heads in, and check the tolerances! You could also have a warped block too! While you are there, break the whole engine down, clean the pistons, put new rings in, change the bearings, install a new timing chain, get the heads redone with the new valves, and put the truck back together! Its just all work now, providing the block is ok, of course!

Oh, that coil pack looks burned in a few places! I would get another, or have it tested!
Second the pictures showing broken vacuum lines were of your cruise control, no worries there, get new lines, and you will have your cruise back!
