that stinks man, ive totaled a car before and it was not cool. it was technically my fault although the lady was flying around a corner and reading the newspaper at the same time. i hit her in the saide going about 10-15 maybe. i had been stopped waiting to turn and had just started to move. my front end was smashed up pretty good but the car was still running. i turned it off and then turned it back on a few minutes later once i realized i needed to get out of the middle of the road. i hit my head pretty good on the airbag so i guess i wasnt thinking strait at first. actually i hit my eye on the airbag. apparently it went off too fast for me to blink and it scratched my cornea. i was basically crying (not really but looked like it) out of that eye for a few days, and i couldnt see out of it for like a month. it wasnt pretty, but no permanent damage so im thankful. but basically my car was still driving, didnt sound bad, didnt have any damage from the firewall back, but it was totalled. i was not a happy camper.
the useful part of this post is that they offered me a lot less than i would be happy with for my totalled car (i dont remember how much) so i went on autotrader.com and cars.com and places like that and found cars same model and trim with similar mileage selling for more and put together a little folder with like 10 examples and a cover letter and took it down to my local state farm agent. they said they would look at it and called a few days later with a much better offer. so try something like that i say!
