I just replaced the VC gaskets on my 88 RRC, and have replaced the VC gaskets on my P38 RR before. The right side is very easy, just a few bolts, and then you have to wiggle the cover off. Take off the old gasket, clean all mating surfaces, and then put it back on. The left side is a PITA. You have to move a lot of stuff to get to it, but it is do-able.
