Seriously the starter isn't hard to find as it acts directly on the fly wheel, there for logically speaking it must be between the engine and tranny, i.e. the bell housing. If you crawl under you should be able to see it.
My borthers 90 V8 used to have starter motor issues, well it occasionally jammed, a whack with a hammer or other heavy object was usually enough.
If the starter motor is clicking, then I would guess it either isn't getting enough power, or is unable to turn the motor over.
I would highly advise you buy something like a Heynes manaul or service manaul if you plan on working on the vehicle at home. Heynes manuals are cheap and useful.
