In the defender its in a different place, in the battery box within a 3-4" square black box, with just one multicore cable entering - unbolt, drill or cut off anti tamper fastenings - remove spider, resolder worst of the joints

I'm almost certain this was my problem as in the last few months since sorting the dry joints it has not caused any problems...

Or you could junk the smart spider and replace it with AMR4956 link lead and be done with.
