Hi there from NYC.
I have a 1996 Discovery 1. I have replaced the exterior running lights and the rear brake lights with LED replacements with little problems.
LED lights not broken in by any vendor have a short life and die suddenly. Ask the vendor for any prior breakin/burnin. These lights operate with a suggested lifetime of 5 to 10 years with a slight dimmimg later in their operating life.
Every six months the percepted brightness on the newer LEDs doubles. Ask for a sample or purchase one to see if the brightness is suitable enough for your needs.
By the way, I replaced the small bulbs inside the Land Rover headlights with LED replacements. The heat inside from the H4s nor from the present HIDs did not affect the bulbs in any way.
