Default Engine Blanket Removal

Hello All,

Due to the advanced age of my 99 D2, the engine blanket has come down with a bad case of the sags. Can I just remove this thing or does it prevent the ghost of Lucas from swooping down and causing an engine fire? I am just looking for one good reason not to remove it.

As this is my first post, a little about my truck. 117k on the clock, 2 radiators, heads rebuilt at 50k, and still on my original brake rotors. It has an oil leak that makes it messy on the front side of the engine, but it can wait until spring. Oh, and my A/C compressor fan and my CD changer is shot. It is still a great truck!
