I would suggest you check the trailor wire harness, all sockets and the grounds.

That was my thought..However the only area that I can find(IN THE DIAGRAMS I FOUND) in the harness is a huge head connector piiece under the pass side dash....BUt I will have to look when I get keys to open his truck!
