Default How to bypass the brake switch.

Grab a paper clip and go to the cargo door. Unplug the connecters on the cargo door window for the heater grid and the third brake light, They are right next to each other and are a singal black spade style connecter (Make sure it is the power side of the grid, if memory serves me right it is the drivers side connecters but check it with a test light to be sure). Be careful when removing so you don`t break the spade off the glass. Now take the paper clip and use it as a jumper to jump the black connecters together.
Now go in your car and start it up.Hit the switch for the cargo door window heater and now you can shift it out of park. Make sure you shut off the cargo door window heater switch once you get it in drive.

As far as the directional and brake issue goes I would check all the the connections for the rear bulbs. I have found many of the connecters melt and/or corrode in the taillight housings of Discoverys and have them cause electrical anomalies.
Brake switches are a common failure but there may be a common demoninator with the directional and brake issue such as a poor ground causing a circuit to feed through a filament in search of ground.
Check the basics first!.
Good luck and let me know how you make out.
