The steering box could be bad, if so there is nothing you can do with it, kind of a common problem. The pump could be hanging up causing the noise, might want to try a bottle of Lucas p/s additive to settle it down.
You should also crawl under neith the truck and make sure it makes full turns both left and right to the point of hitting the steering stops.
You might also inspect the front CV joint, make sure it is not starting to fail.
