If its a 1997 vehicle that should be a 300Tdi- no problems there. Just check that the cambelt has been changed regularly (90,000 km should be the change interval). Some have head-gasket problems if they're allowed to overheat- check for lack of power, white smoke from the exhaust, low water level in the header tank, and sometimes a 'ticking' from the back of the engine.
