Stocks set to open higher after sell-off

U.S. stocks were poised to open moderately higher Wednesday following a massive worldwide sell-off a day earlier that rattled investor confidence but left fertile ground for bargain hunters.
Sell high, buy low.
Wall Street hammered in global sell-off
Dow falls over 500 points; huge loss follows big drop in China

NEW YORK - Stocks plummeted Tuesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average plunging more than 500 points before recovering some ground, as Wall Street joined a global market plunge sparked by growing concerns that the U.S. and Chinese economies are cooling and that equities prices have become overinflated.
I don't understand the complexities of this global market but I'm sure this isn't a good thing.
This sucks

OTTAWA (CP) - At least 110,000 "Lost Canadians," who risk being stripped of their citizenship under an arcane law, are the children of soldiers and diplomats who served overseas, a parliamentary committee heard Monday.

Lava-spewing volcano prompts state of emergency on Italian island

Democrats split over Iraq plan details

WASHINGTON - Democrats' ambitious plans to limit President Bush's war authority and force a change of course in Iraq are faltering amid party divisions over how quickly and aggressively they should act.
Two plans seem to lack enough support to prevail. One is to repeal the 2002 measure and for troop withdrawls, the other is to cut the purse strings.
I don't like to be right but that's what I said the new congress would attempt.
The debate over the competing measures will probably wait for a Senate bill being worked on on the other side.
Pelosi stated, "Let me be very clear: Congress will fund our troops."
I'm glad to hear that.
Compromise measure.

Cash-Strapped Michigan Sheriff's Department Auctioning Machine Gun

Strapped for cash, the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department is selling the original Colt rifle on its Web site to purchase new guns and other equipment for its 82 deputies.
"The fact that a law enforcement agency is selling a dangerous weapon is appalling," said Shikha Hamilton, president of the Michigan chapter of the Million Mom March, a gun control group.
Shikha...sweetheart, all weapons by their nature are "dangerous". What is truly appalling is the underfunding of your law enforcement agencies so much that they need to sell guns to fund themselves.
Sealed Bid Site.
They should put some ads up on their site to get some coin from all the traffic!

Model and actress Alicia Mayer wears a bikini made of lettuce while posing for photographers during a photo shoot for a new People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign promoting vegetarianism in Manila February 28, 2007.
You know what would go nicely with that bikini? Some ranch dressing and a steak. MMmmmmmm. Good.

Veterans Committee picks no one for Hall

NEW YORK - The Hall of Fame pitched another shutout. Ron Santo, Jim Kaat and all the other candidates were left out Tuesday when the Veterans Committee admitted no new members for the third straight election.
Do they have this right? Or are they just too strict?
