Yet Another Coolant Leak
Hi guys,
I've read a few of the coolant leak threads on here, but thought I would post anyway just to hear some replies. I bought my 3.5 liter 89 RRC back in August. Ever since purchase it has had a problem of overflowing the coolant overflow bottle once the engine gets warmed up. After awhile the coolant level gets too low and has to be replenished. The temp gauge works, and it does not overheat. I've had the cylinder compression checked twice and both times all the cylinders were ok. I also had the coolant system pressure checked about a month after purchase, and that was ok. It also seems like when the coolant does come out, it sprays out from around the cap rather than from the overflow nozzle, which is not blocked.
I'm not sure how you identify bubbles in the heater core. I went to a friend that is a bit of a mechanic and rover nut, and he said that mine was a common problem, that the overflow bottle is too small, and that most people fix it by running a hose off the nozzle from the stock overflow bottle to a second, home-installed overflow bottle.
Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone expand on this?
