Default Off road question

As I have stated in some earlier post I have no off road experience with my Rover. I have had other 4x4's in the past and have been off road with them. My question is when your tires load up with mud on a Disco how do you clean them out? The way I understand the traction control works is it will not let the tires spin to clean out the mud. This my sound like a crazy question but it was just something I thought about. My thinking could be way off and once I do take my Disco off road I may have a better understanding then.
