Hi-lift needs sturdy points to operate on your vehicle so l agree that means without a BULL BAR or REAR STEP BAR or ROCK SLIDERS its useless piece of kit.
Warning on mounting your Hi-Lift jack on your rear moutned tyre, in a accident or under servere breaking it moves forward and will destroy your rear windscreen, seen it happen countless times in Australia.
I made a wooden box for mine and it lays across the floor of the Range Rover which also holds my tyre levers and puncture repair equipment and spare bottle jack.
SInce 1984 l think l have used the Hi- Lift twice and don't take it out with me unless doign a few weeks expedition style trip thru the outback

I got a Hitch mounted M6000 recently to handle rear recovery situations. But after much thought, I dont think it will handle a bad recovery operation and may do more damage than good, so a simple and hardy tool like a Tirfor is definately a good idea.
