I have tested both the X3 & X5, and test drove the Pajero, & Xtrail......did'nt like any of them.........nearly purchased the Grand Cherokee but was struggling with the handbrake etc.....also the new GC 2008 coming out late this year...I thought FL2 would be better option.

I agree with you but people buy BMW because they are BMW not because how good they are or how good they are not - cost or value for money is not an issue - the badge is.
Freelanders success will not depend on how good the car is buy how well Landrover can convince BMW buyers that the Freelander has the same snob value. As far as the jap cars are concerned - these buyers will always buy on price and the Freelander can never compete and the for the money there are more capable 4wd small cars available eg Suzuki Vitara - dual range and capable but less luxurious.
