Its an common overheating problem of this Rover K series engine.
I was there few months ago, (out of warranty) and i know how you feel.

You have to be there when they ll replace your headgasket.
Be sure that you havent any scratches on head's or the block's contact surface. If you have any scratches, your gasket or the whole head will fail again.
Also its good to change the 10 enginehead bolts. Using the same bolts, in an overheated aluminium engine head, can cause the headgasket to fail again.

Another problem is that sometimes, cause of bad temp sensor, the engine is toasted when you driving, but your temp gauge its in the normal area, right in the middle. ( Its a BMW design )
By the way, have you ever see your temp gauge exceed the normal area ?

Finally i did a couple of things in order to protect my new headgasket.

1. Replace Water Pump
2. Replace Temp valve
3. Replace water tank and water cap
4. Replace water valve

Dont forget to check every week the water and oil level and any suspect sound under the hood (Specially like boiling water or bubbles)
Dont push the throttle more than 3.000 rpms until you got 90° Oil Temp, and never park the car with a hot engine after a hot ride, let it cool down to 100° before you turn engine off.

Good luck.
