My advice is do not get too stuck into putting alot of your own cash and stress into it!! Land Rover is more than aware of the problem and will generaly replace the faulty bit like the head ,temp sensors and the like free of charge!It depends on how far from the end of warranty you are.
For an 01 reg you should be ok due to the fact that was the biggest problem year. My secretary had the exact same problem as about 4 thousand others and got all repaired free twice on the same reg vehicle. MG had the same isse because they used the same engine in their cars.MG hwever did not stand behind a majority of the head gasket issues and ended up stiching up the customer. Land Rover should stand behind the k series issue without fail!!!
If you have any issues try Harwoods in Surrey they have done my secretary car twice for the same issue. If you keep replacing stuff on your own money without Land Rover knowing they may be less likely to put it straight. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
