Default New Problem?

Driving down the road shifting into 2nd. In between first and second the clutch cable gives (no resistance or feedback) and it won't shift into any gears. i pump furiously because am in the middle of traffic and it all of a sudden comes back and shifts into gears. Happened once again later on in the day. Now when I start from a dead stop there is a clank sound when letting of the clutch. Is this something to do with the cable or clutch itself?
