Don't mean to hi-jack. If you use a high mileage synthetic can't you extened the drain intervals. I have not heard of synthetics forming sludge. I myself have been thinking of using a product like Amsoil that can extend oil changes to 25k. I have had my Disco for 2 years now and it seems like I'm doing oil changes every other month. For a time I did them once a month because I hit 3k so fast. I think my average right now is 21.5K a year. Mike any thoughts. Extending to 7500 would be good too. For the record I'm doing 3k oil changes and I trying the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant per their instructions and adding it to every tank full to see if there is any increase in mileage, and hopefully keep the carbon down. Also considering their Heavy duty oil stabilizer to help with tap at startup.
