Yes, Lazerusrm & Evil_Speedracer, I do remember (and understand) what it's like to be young and testosterone soaked. I also appreciate that there are cheaper ways to get more power out of almost any drivetrain than super- or turbo-charging. I once tried unsuccessfully to supercharge a Merc outboard with an old Electrolux vacuum cleaner!! But gentlemen, this is 2007; just because you can, doesn't mean you should (encouraged or not).

Engineers have spent considerable time setting up the fuel/exhaust system on these older vehicles - just gutting the cats is unlikely to be the best way to get more power. Here in Vancouver, there are a number of Discos/Rangies running around with 'free flow' exhausts that, I am told yield good power gains (20hp?)....I promise they all have cats in place.

As to being slow at 80 mph, all I can say is 'thank heaven I live on the west coast!' A few weeks ago we drove down through Washington into Oregon and were faster than most at about 70-75mph in our family Volvo... I've never had our Disco beyond those speeds as it is clearly not an SUV (SportUV) but rather an off-road vehicle with some manners - a different type of SUV perhaps , SedateUV?. Sorry to be an old fart.
