Default Stuck and Dissapointed

Ok this is the 2nd time I got stuck in the snow. The first time it was because my tcase shifter broke. But this time I am pretty shures its working ? or is it.

I was only in a few feet of snow. And only 2 tires where turning I thought when you locked the diff that all 4 wheels are suppose to spin ? or does it only send equal power to front and back to only 2 wheels? It seemed that only 1 wheel on each side was spining. if all 4 where spining I wouldnt have been stuck. but only 2 where spinning. So I jacked up the side that wasnt spining put it in gear and that side started spining not the other side then I put it down but still only 2 on one side. I tried locking and unlocking the diff but it was same both ways can some please explain to me wtf the locking the diff does? I didnt have winch or shovel with me or even a real jack. or even winter cloths because the snow just kinda came up on the road so I had to dig my self out with a cooking spoon and use the standard jack... Almost froze my toes off...

I am starting to feel like a unhappy disco camper

Earlier that day though it just rocked going on some of these other off road trails with rain and mud.
