I would look at the floors and frame for any rott. look at the alignment of all the doors and hood to see that they are good and look at the bottom of the pillar between both doors for rott in the corners (big issue).

As for engine, drivetrain and tranny, Let the engine come to temp and see what happens. Look and smell for radiator fluid and oil. Check the power steering pump area for leaks.

Check the tranny by putting it in drive and allowing it to shift thru the gears with steady pressure on the accellerator. (normal driving) looking for shift delay (feels like a minor stall between gears) and listen for any mechanical noises thru the rest of the drivetrain. Chances are they will be on either end of the drive shaft easy fix.

check the shocks and spring for excessive wear (body rolling whil turning) and front brakes at 80+ K miles are mostlikely needed.

Lastly, make sure you engage the diff lock to see that it is working. Most of these D1's were given to soccer moms who never engaged the diff hence, the linkage is shot and will need attention at a minimum.

Hope this helped... Post some pics of the D1 if you buy it so we can see.
