The last total rebuild I did, re-framed, re-plumbed, re-wired, re-painted etc, was last year, a 71 2A in Conniston Green. I even bought a new soft top, bows and tailboard for it. It was pretty fine, and I had about 30 calls on it when it hit the boards.I sold it for about 11K, and many people told me I sold it for too little. It was as nice as any 18K truck out there, but I don't try and charge for my time, just my out of pocket. My theory is simple, I do it for fun, I won't loose money, but when I sell them (or decide to sell them), I don't want to look at it for the rest of the year haggling over what might be the last bread crumb. I picked up a very nice Ex Mod 109 2A for 3500 which is slightly lower than they normally go for, but this one is so nice, it was a better bargain yet. A freind locally just found a '73 S3 on the side of the road for $4k, negotiated to 3200 and got what may be the most unmolested truck out there. I think the top dollar ones are the exception to the rule, but they are the ones that get the most attention, and generally show up in higher visibility spots like ebay, craigslist etc. The bargain papers still turn up the bargains. LRX has the whole spectrum, but I have bought off that site before also. I have stopped supporting the transport industry, won't buy one too far away anymore. There's a '61 MK2 Jag sitting on my trailer and it has decided it likes it better there than on the ground, so now, If I can't drive it home, have it follow me home, or best yet, get Paul Grant to pick it up and bring it home, I don't bother.
