Christ, would you? Man I wouldn't even consider the option, just too much of an important part to be "patching up". My personal choice would be replace. IMHO it just isn't worth the risk of possibly causing an accident on the freeway due to the steering/wheel locking up, or not getting home if out on the trails!
By all means patch it up and keep it as a spare in the back, "get-you-home" just in case spare, but rely on it, hell no!
