The box is a Jatco 5 speed,it MUST have the right oil in it as Mike says.It is controlled electronically via solenoids in the front of the box behind the vertical "sump". It should be possible to resolve your issue without to much work/expense.The solenoid valves are all available separately,and can be replaced with the box in situ,sounds like one of them is sticking.The LR tests for solenoid resistance arent much help because they only tell you that the coil is OK - not that the valve actually operates.
