I have around a 2.5 inch exhaust system. I think the size of the pipe has a fair amount to do with the deepness of the note. I have only one sports type (Flowmaster type) muffler, not cats or rear muffler. Before that I had a 2 inch exhaust, but need to add a cherry bomb at the rear to deepen the sound. Very easy to get too high a note from the exhaust on a rover. I reckon that mine has a very similar note to Chev V8s, etc. I also run a Carby, which has a definite impact on the note out the exhaust.

I like the sound of a V8 and don't mind hearing it in the background when driving. I like the sound when I put the boot into it. I get regular feedback about the sound, all positive. Others also liken it to a Chev sound and are surprised that it is a Rangie.
