I usually hand crank it at least once a month as I can usually tell how the timing/engine is running by how it hand cranks. If it bucks and kicks on the hand crank, then I know that there is something a little wonky and time to do a quick tune up. That and it keeps me in good practice for the day when the starter is full of mud from that one last off road run that we decide to do on the weekend......
