clearly you know the differences between the terms, so don't take this the wrong way.
i guess what i dont get is this - and this maybe just educating me - but it seems like the term 'lincoln locker' is being used interchangably with words 'spool' and 'welded.' Using a purpose-built spool or welding a diff to yield a spool will result in a permanent locked diff, of course. By contrast, is a Lincoln Locker a part-time locked differential like a Detroit Tru Trac or Detroit Locker? or would it be permanently locked like a spool?
It would seem to me that if your experience has been negative w regard to lockers, then going with a spool or something that results in a permanent locked dif would be worse. If I may, I think that is where people are having a hard time with how to respond.
I would love to see getting to the bottom of this thread bc I plan to put in lockers. Incidentally, when I do, all the advice I have gotten (which I intend to heed) is to upgrade to 24 spline HD axles, and upgrade differential gear sets, as well as any other fragile pieces.
