Replacing your old springs will effect your ride height and ride, the height will be slightly taller depending on the springs you choose and the ride will be much better.
As for the question of color rings, can't say I have seem them, what brand of coils were they on?
Usually, as with OME's there will be a small white tag with the coil number and also on the front coils, they will usually mark which one goes on the drivers side.
