Hello LRO members...
My name is Michael and I am a Land Rover junkie with NO land rover experience. I am shopping for my 'first buy' right now, and I am a very avid DIY'er. I have worked on many cars and consider myself very experienced in the area. As I am shopping, a friend of mine comes to me with need of assistance. She has a Discovery 2 (2001) that has loss of power amongst other probs. Although she had already done this before talking with me, she went to a local firestone

to help diagnose with SES lights showing (not sure whether CES or SES light was showing, and apparently not blinking). I am not sure of mileage, but am told she wants me to do her tune-up for her, and will prob have a muffler shop deal with a cat. prob she is having. I have not even test driven the vehicle, so I am really going off her ideas and thoughts and the codes that Firestone read. I do not have the traditional code numbers I am seeing being displayed on this site (ie: 0305, etc etc... is this the OBDII code reader?).
It would be great if I could get my hands on a service manual for back-up. Upon searching, the only thing I have come across is the RAVE CD and perhaps some GTS online package that can be bought. Am I on the wrong track for service manual here, or is there an easier method to obtaining one? I am surprised you guys do not have a free online copy running around.... maybe there is that I have yet to find... Regarding wires, magnecor 8 mm? People seem happy with these.. With semi-small hands (but not really), maybe I can do this without replacing the intake gasket or even removal of it. Oh yes, regarding the magnecors, I heard there is not a porcelain cap on these, which has caused "cap-snap" issues... experience or ever heard of this? I am really looking for any advice LRO can give in my situation. She potentially has a MAF failure as well due to the fact that Firestone reported a 4th gear tranny code and , for some reason, "multiple codes stored in memory from mass air sensors being repeatedly unplugged/replugged"... hmmm....
I guess I am looking for a bit of vehicle history and/or help to insure my work is done correctly.. you know, those tidbits of info that make it a professional job.. Thanks in advance LRO!!
