Default Tires that don't act like toboggans...

Hi, I'm new to the site - have a 2001 Discovery Series II - currently running Goodyear 255/55 R18 tires Wrangler HP. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada - we have fierce winters - temperature ranges from high of plus 95 degrees F in summer to minus 45 degrees F in winter...lots of snow and ice from November to April. I don't do real offroad driving - several times a year we head into the bush north of Winnipeg for camping, fishing and hunting travelling on gravel or rocky roads.

There are times I feel like I'm riding on two toboggans when driving on ice, snow or sand on snow/ice...any suggestions on the type of tires for this vehicle? Sure appreciate any advice I can get.
