Bought it last summer and been researching/talking with community ever since to determine what works best. I'll admit it can be confusing, but I am a patient person, so I'll ask as I go. The guy I will off-road with have similar setups.
I am ready to buy the suspension, so if you can point me to the best prices I would reallyappreciate it.
When you speak of the front drive shaft, are you talking about replacing the u-joints with greasables? What would that cost? Can I drive with the front drive shaft removed? My DII has 50K on it and I notice a very slight rumble (not tires, etc.) at 55-65 that feels like the drive train.

You can drop in a LT230 anytime and put in CDL linkage. I plan on doing this to our 2002 DII... Why did LR not do the CDL in the 2002-2003 is beyond me. Dumbest thing Rover ever did other than creating the LR3 !!!
Great Basins has a front driveshaft to replace the junk LR installed from the factory. Greasable etc. You cannot drive your rover with the driveshaft removed because there is no CDL. I would imagine from your description, the front drive shaft is ready to poop.....
Best lift you can do and it looks good without TONS of other mods would be a 2" heavy duty spring kit from Steve at Rovertym. Go higher you are talking extensions for brake lines and a lot of other stuff.....
