Front of airbox is ment for Aux battery, you can actually get a 110ah defender battery in there by moving the power sterring resovoir around.
Over here Dual battery's are one of the first things done to a vehicle for running fridges and lights and for back up starting as you tend to be a long way from help over here. Sure power smart solinoid is the best way to go, we install these all the time at work, you should be able to get it pretty cheap over there to as it's a Yank product. You could also go to an ARB store and get a "kit" with every thing ready made to just plug and play(for a D1).
