I'm having similar issues w/ my '93 RRC. I too have narrowed it down to the VC. Weird thing is that I have no problems driving in the rain. I tried driving in a circle to see if any wheel lock up but I get nothing. I do feel a drag from the VC. It's just as noticeable going in a straight line.
As far as the LT230 conversion goes, I don't think you need to replace either prop shafts. I could be wrong on that. Don't forget that you have to butcher the center console a bit to accommodate the new lever movement.
