There have been many, many, tests on the cheap winches. Virtually in every case they self destruct before reaching their rated capacity. There is no reason to think that your winch is an exception.

You are unlikely to use half the rated capacity pulling yourself out of a snow drift and therefore may be safe enough. But I would not use it for anything much more than that.

As a test, connect it to a solid tree in your street at home. Get in the vehicle and apply the brakes. Wind in the winch until it stalls. If it doesn't go bang, or up in smoke, you might have half a chance. Also when you wind the cable back on properly, feel the motor and see how hot it gets after pulling the full length of cable under a load. Just touch it with your finger as I reckon there is a good chance you will get 3rd degree burns.

You have the cable crossing over itself on the drum. With any weight on the cable it will cause the cable to crush the underlying section. When a cable is first put on the drum, it should be done under tension. The cable should be neatly rolled onto the drum. This is rarely possible in real life situations, but at the first opportunity you should unwind the cable and wind it back on properly under tension.
