Find a picture of the rear of any military series landrover. You should see what appear to be rear bumpers on either side of the tailgate. They are actually jerry can holders.
They are simply a base that holds the bottom of the jerry and a strap holds them down.
The rear door is not really strong enough to carry the spare wheel under they went to 3 hinges. It will not take the weight of jerry cans.
