Charles Wells Colorado Trail Guide Books 1 & 2.

Use the trail rating system to decide the level trail you will tackle. Measure your clearance under the vehicle and the trail guide says generally what size rocks will be on that trail. A nice general guide. I think you can get them at Borders online or Amazon.

Any off roader should have water, food, good shoes, warm clothes (snows in Aug. at high altitude sometimes), recovery points solidly attached to vehicle, tow straps, correctly sized spare, know how to change a spare, oil, coolant, another vehicle to trail ride with, etc.

Common sense is the best thing to have. Check out the Solihull Society site for trail runs we have planned around the time of your trip. Some people on that board have a great wealth of knowledge of the state and the state's trails.

Good Luck
