The only times I have heard of an ARB failing is when some clown engages it while they are spinning wheels.
I biggest issue with the detroit is not their ability to fail, it is their lack of spider gears. That is, their inability to supply drive to both wheels when both have traction and one wheel is turning faster than the other. This defeats the basic concept of a diff.
