If you change gears in one diff, you need to change the gears in the other too. I believe they must be exactly the same ratio or you will wreck the axles and/or the ring and pinion. I would not recommend going to a more aggressive gear ratio unless you plan on adding some 33's in the near future.

The other guy is right about the traction control provided by the center locking diff., w/o a locking diff in the front and rear, they can get stuck very easily. I never understood why a manufacturer would design a vehicle which is supposed to be capable off road, without a lockable diff, both front and rear. Jeep wrangler is the same way. Just seems rediculous to me.
