actually the easiest way to clean brake dust is to use Meauritic acid. its what all dealers use. spray it on and leave it on for about five minutes and then wash it off. if anything is stil on use a soft dish brush with plastic bristles to clean them off.

we do it all the time. In fact when a caliper seizes up and grinds down and it bakes it on you can still use the meauritic acid to get it off. just use a bit of elbow grease.
