Default Gas Mileage Question ????

I am wondering what kind of mileage I should be expecting from a 2002 Freelander AWD with 60,000 miles and 2.5L V6. I was under the impression that it should be somewhere around 21 mpg, instead it seems to be getting closer to 13 mpg with all highway driving. It is baffling, my 2004 F250 Diesel 4x4 is getting better mileage than this thing and it weighs 7,700 lbs.

I would like to add that it is also continuously giving the code of P1472 but i have since read to ignore that code.

Does anyone have any ideas why it is getting such poor mileage? It is currently running good, as I have repaired all the vacuum lines and the Service Engine soon light is no longer illuminated.

Where else should I look to improve mileage and get it to where it should be?
