I have not heard of ANY 2002 Freelanders that haven't had sunroof issues. Before all you '02 owners who have yet to have issues start piping up, let me just say; YOU WILL. It is the single biggest complaint every Freelander owner has, and, unfortuantely, yours was not fixed by the previous owner, and under warranty. You almost never see a 2002 on the dealers lot today, because they won't take them in trade, PERIOD. They did a few years ago, but usually used them for loaners.
The tracks are the issue, and usually lead to motor failure, trying to make it work. Drop the overhead console; finagle, anyway you can, the roof into the closed position, and NEVER open it again. Disconnect the motor if you think you're going to forget this experience. Dealer replacement of the Incredibly lousy piece of Land Rover engineering, will set you back over $800.
