I had recently been deciding on these and I know I'll be needing some steering protction for sure. Exiting mudholes back onto hard land can cause some damage. I've banged up "El Capitan" damn hard before while doing exactly this, somehow there is no damage but noticable scrapes on the rods. The axle plate was only something I'd be using for my trip next year. A fuel tank plate would go on way before an axle plate would.
