Check that the drive line viscous coupling has not frozen up - 98/99 models do this - could be causing transmission windup causing load on IRD and Diff bearings - a frozen VC (expensive) will cause the IRD and/or the Diff to fail - very, very expensive.

If VC is OK - check universal joints and bearings in the propellor shaft.
